Albania’s Parliament has approved the participation of the country’s Armed Forces in the International Stabilization Force operation in Gaza, with 106 lawmakers voting in favor of the legislation.
The bill authorizes the deployment of up to 40 Albanian military personnel as part of the international mission. According to the government’s draft legislation, their tasks will include supporting security and stabilization operations, protecting mission personnel and infrastructure, supporting humanitarian operations, and monitoring and reporting on the security situation.
The legislation was placed on the agenda of Thursday’s plenary session alongside a separate bill concerning amendments to Albania’s law on the takeover of publicly offered companies.
Following the votes, Assembly Speaker Niko Peleshi closed the plenary session. The session took place amid tensions involving opposition lawmakers, according to local media reports.
The Albanian government had previously submitted the bill through an accelerated procedure, formally proposing the country’s participation in the International Stabilization Force operation in Gaza.
The decision comes as Albania takes part in international discussions on the stabilization and reconstruction of Gaza. On Thursday, Foreign Minister Ferit Hoxha said Albania was actively supporting international efforts, including through its contribution to the International Stabilization Force.
