Nearly two hours have passed since Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) leader Bedri Hamza began a meeting at the Kosovo Government building, with discussions reportedly focused on the Specialist Chambers and the election of Kosovo’s next president.
Hamza arrived at the meeting accompanied by PDK MP Rrahman Rama. Vetëvendosje (VV) figure Glauk Konjufca was also seen entering the government building, although it has not been confirmed whether he is participating in the meeting.
Hamza is expected to seek further clarification from Kurti regarding the PDK’s proposed draft law concerning the Kosovo Specialist Chambers.
The Kosovo Government is currently awaiting a legal opinion from the Ministry of Justice regarding the proposed amendments.
The meeting also comes amid discussions over the election of Kosovo’s president. Hamza has said that communications have begun with the aim of reaching an agreement on the matter, describing the weekend as crucial for securing a deal.
“Our communications have begun, and naturally this weekend is crucial so that we can reach an agreement and have a president next week,” Hamza said.
The talks between Kurti and Hamza therefore come as political parties discuss both the proposed changes concerning the Specialist Chambers and the process for electing Kosovo’s next head of state.
