Dačić Says SPS Is Serbia’s “Anchor” — Apparently, the Anchor Has Been Here for Decades

Ivica Dačić has apparently discovered the secret to saving Serbia from political instability: vote for the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) the very party that has been sitting at the center of Serbia’s political establishment for decades.

“There needs to be some connective tissue. And there must be some safe harbor, some anchor,” Dačić told supporters in Novi Pazar.

According to Dačić, Serbia must avoid political instability and crisis, and the best guarantee of that stability is, naturally, a strong result for the SPS and its coalition.

The pitch is almost too convenient. The party founded by Slobodan Milošević is now presenting itself as Serbia’s “safe harbor” and political anchor. And Dačić, a veteran of Serbia’s political establishment, is once again warning citizens that without his party, chaos is apparently waiting around the corner.

In other words: after decades at the political table, SPS is now asking voters to believe that it is the table keeping Serbia from falling apart.

Dačić also said that political issues should not be resolved in the streets and that violence is not the answer — while Serbia remains deeply divided amid continuing political tensions and protests.

And because apparently no political rally is complete without a little entertainment, Dačić also spoke about his personal problems before eventually breaking into song.

Earlier, he visited the Novi Pazar Police Department and the Fire and Rescue Department, where he praised local authorities for maintaining public order, peace and coexistence.

“Given the specific nature of this police department, I can say that the security situation is stable,” Dačić said.

So there it is: SPS is the “anchor,” Dačić is the veteran navigator, and Serbian voters are once again being asked to believe that the people who have spent decades inside the system are somehow the only ones capable of keeping it stable.

Quite a political rescue mission led by the same crew that has been on the ship for decades.
