Albanian Foreign Minister Ferit Hoxha has responded to remarks by Serbian politician Ivica Dačić, who stated during the election campaign that the Serbian flag would fly over Prizren.
In a statement posted on the social media platform X, Hoxha criticised Dačić’s rhetoric, warning that such statements could encourage dangerous actions and undermine regional stability.
According to Hoxha, this kind of rhetoric cannot be dismissed as mere political campaigning, as it could embolden individuals willing to act on such statements.
The Albanian foreign minister also recalled the attack in Banjska, Zvečan, stressing that full accountability for the incident has yet to be established.
He warned that the Banjska case demonstrates the dangers that arise when threatening rhetoric turns into concrete actions.
Hoxha emphasised that Albania remains committed to good neighbourly relations, regional cooperation and reconciliation. However, he added that these goals cannot be achieved through the denial of political realities or the use of threatening rhetoric.
“The Republic of Kosovo is an irreversible reality. It is a sovereign and democratic state,” Hoxha stated.
He stressed that Kosovo is an equal part of the region and that its future must be built on peace, security, inclusiveness and European integration.
Finally, the Albanian foreign minister reaffirmed Albania’s unwavering support for Kosovo.
“Albania has stood by Kosovo and will continue to support it in every way possible,” Hoxha declared.
The reaction follows Dačić’s remarks during the election campaign, which have once again drawn attention to political tensions and nationalist rhetoric in the region.
