Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti held a farewell meeting on Monday with outgoing NATO-led Kosovo Force (KFOR) commander Major General Özkan Ulutaş, thanking him for cooperation and coordination during his two terms leading the mission in Kosovo.
According to Kurti, the discussions covered Kosovo’s path toward NATO membership, current political developments, the security situation in Kosovo and the wider region, and efforts to strengthen the capabilities of the Kosovo Security Force (KSF) and Kosovo Police.
The meeting also focused on cooperation between Kosovo’s institutions and KFOR, as well as opportunities to expand and deepen their coordination.
Kurti described his communication with Ulutaş throughout the general’s two mandates as constructive, saying he would leave Kosovo as a friend with whom the country would retain positive memories.
“During his two terms as KFOR commander, communication with Major General Özkan Ulutaş has been constructive, and he leaves our country as a friend with whom we will preserve good memories,” Kurti wrote.
“I thanked him for the cooperation and coordination. We discussed the path toward NATO membership, current political developments, the security situation in Kosovo and the region, strengthening the capabilities of the Kosovo Security Force and Kosovo Police, the good cooperation between the Republic’s institutions and KFOR, and concrete opportunities to expand and deepen that cooperation,” he added.
Ulutaş’s departure marks the end of his tenure leading the NATO-led mission, which plays a role in maintaining a safe and secure environment in Kosovo.
