The Government of Kosovo has approved the establishment of a working group to provide institutional support for the defence of former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) leaders facing proceedings in The Hague.
Deputy Prime Minister Glauk Konjufca has been appointed head of the working group. As Prime Minister Albin Kurti explained, the group will coordinate state support during the appeal process following the ruling by the Specialist Chambers in The Hague, which on 16 September found Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi and Jakup Krasniqi guilty of war crimes and sentenced them to prison terms ranging from 13 to 25 years.
“For this reason, today we are establishing a working group, headed by the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Mr Glauk Konjufca, with institutional and parliamentary representation, to coordinate legal, institutional and diplomatic support for the appeal proceedings,” Kurti said at the government meeting.
According to Kurti, this move gives concrete form to the government’s commitment to supporting the defence of the KLA’s war.
“With this decision, we are putting into practice our commitment to use the means at our disposal to pursue justice and defend the historical truth of our liberation war,” he said.
