Demonstrators attacked Albania’s Ministry of Justice with stones and Molotov cocktails on Wednesday evening, setting fire to the building’s first floor as protests in the capital continued to escalate.
The attack followed earlier incidents targeting several public institutions, including the Ministry of Economy, Parliament and the Prime Minister’s Office, as well as a number of private businesses.
During the afternoon, protesters moved along Dëshmorët e Kombit Boulevard, setting fires near the Prime Minister’s Office, the Pyramid of Tirana and the Twin Towers area, according to Euronews Albania, as reported by Ekonomia Online.
Amid rising tensions, police used tear gas in an attempt to disperse the crowd. Demonstrators subsequently moved toward Parliament before breaking into smaller groups and dispersing across different neighborhoods of the capital.
The latest incident marks a further escalation in the student-led protests in Tirana, which have seen demonstrators target government buildings and other public sites.
