The United States Embassy in Tirana has issued a security warning to American citizens following violent clashes during protests in the Albanian capital on Wednesday.

In an advisory, the embassy said demonstrations near Skanderbeg Square had turned violent after protesters began throwing stones. The protest initially took place on Durrës Street before moving toward the Prime Minister’s Office.

The embassy warned that demonstrations could spread to surrounding government buildings and nearby areas, potentially resulting in an increased police presence, traffic disruptions, diversions and road closures.

Embassy personnel were advised to avoid demonstrations, while US citizens were urged to remain vigilant and prioritize their personal safety.

The embassy also called on American citizens to monitor local media and follow instructions from law enforcement authorities to stay informed about developments and conditions on the ground.

The warning comes amid escalating protests in Tirana, where demonstrators have clashed with police and targeted public institutions in recent days.
