The Kosovo government has allocated more than €1.85 million in financial assistance for Albanians living in the Preševo Valley, covering the municipalities of Preševo, Bujanovac and Medveđa in southern Serbia.
Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti announced the allocation at a government session, calling on Serbia not to obstruct financial assistance provided by Kosovo to the Albanian community in the region.
Kurti said the support was intended to help Albanians in Preševo, Bujanovac and Medveđa live, pursue their education and build their future in their home communities.
He accused Serbian authorities of repeatedly blocking financial assistance from Kosovo, describing such actions as discriminatory toward Albanians living in the Preševo Valley.
“Belgrade must put an end to this discriminatory practice,” Kurti said.
He stressed that the rights of Albanians should not depend on whether Serbian authorities choose to respect them, adding that Kosovo would continue supporting the community despite attempts to obstruct the assistance.
The funding comes amid ongoing political tensions between Kosovo and Serbia over the rights of the Albanian community in southern Serbia and Prishtina’s support for residents of the Preševo Valley.
