European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos has issued another warning to Kosovo, calling the amendments to the Specialist Chambers Law “unacceptable” and cautioning that their adoption and implementation would contradict Kosovo’s commitments to the EU.

Following talks with Kosovo’s chief EU integration negotiator, Jeton Zulfaj, Kos acknowledged progress in rule-of-law reforms, the EU Growth Plan and preparations for SEPA membership, despite recent institutional instability.

But her message was clear: progress towards EU membership requires respect for the rule of law and independent judicial institutions. Kos warned that the legislative changes could represent a serious setback for Kosovo’s European aspirations.
