Kosovo’s Foreign Minister, Glauk Konjufca, has reaffirmed Kosovo’s ambition to join NATO, saying that membership would help strengthen security and ensure long-term stability across the Western Balkans.
Konjufca made the remarks during a meeting with a delegation from the Political Committee of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, comprising representatives from nine NATO member states.
“Today, I welcomed a delegation from the Political Committee of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, comprising representatives from nine member states, for a friendly meeting. During an open and constructive discussion, I reaffirmed Kosovo’s unwavering commitment to joining the North Atlantic Alliance and our conviction that membership would serve the long-term security of the entire Western Balkans.
NATO membership would give institutional expression to an affiliation deeply rooted in the political consciousness of our people. Kosovo’s ties with the Euro-Atlantic world are grounded in the history of our liberation and the democratic values upon which we have built our Republic. This national objective reflects the broad will of our citizens, and achieving it remains a fundamental priority of our foreign policy.
I expressed my appreciation for the support the NATO Parliamentary Assembly has provided to Kosovo and for the contribution of parliamentary diplomacy to bringing us closer to the Alliance.
The Western Balkans needs security that can withstand political changes and limit opportunities for attempts at destabilization. Kosovo’s NATO membership would strengthen that security by placing our country within the collective defence system and expanding cooperation among allies in the region.
We want to protect the security we have built together with our allies as members of the same Alliance,” Konjufca wrote on Facebook.
