After 27 years of waiting and uncertainty over her brother’s fate, the sister of Dr. Adem Ademi has revealed that she was convinced he was buried in Kalludër, Zubin Potok, as soon as excavations began and the first human remains were discovered.
Speaking to RTV Dukagjini, she explained that suspicions about the location had emerged from information indicating that this was the last place where the group of intellectuals, including her brother, had been seen.
She said that when excavations began in the area and human remains started to emerge, she became convinced that her brother was among those buried there.
“However, when human remains started being found there, I began to suspect it and convinced myself that my brother had to be there,” she stated.
She explained that for years the family had held on to the hope that Ademi might still be alive and imprisoned in Serbia. However, those hopes gradually faded after Albanian prisoners were released and returned to Kosovo, and his name was not among them.
Following confirmation that Ademi’s remains had been identified, his sister said that although the news was welcome after 27 years of searching, it remained deeply painful for the family.
She described the grief and anguish the family had endured for nearly three decades and expressed gratitude to the institutions involved in identifying him.
She thanked the Government Commission on Missing Persons, the Institute of Forensic Medicine, the War Crimes Investigation Unit of the Kosovo Police, and everyone who contributed to the process.
“It is welcome news, but what can I say? It is painful. When I say welcome, I mean that we have spent 27 years searching for him and finally found him. That is why it is welcome news,” she said.
