American professor Daniel Serwer has commented on the relations between Kosovo and Serbia.

In an analysis, the Balkans expert assessed that the withdrawal of Serbs from Kosovo’s institutions has reduced Serbia’s influence in the region, a fact that Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has come to understand.

“I think he (Vučić) realizes that the withdrawal of Serbs from Kosovo’s institutions has diminished Serbia’s influence in Kosovo. Now, the institutions in Pristina are recruiting new people, Serbs who are supposed to be not loyal to Belgrade, and Belgrade has not wanted them to join the institutions,” Serwer stated.

He further emphasized that Serbia is trying to regain its positions in northern Kosovo.

“Now it is attempting to regain its positions in northern Kosovo by seeking to have individuals who are loyal to Belgrade return to the institutions, in order to block further progress of Pristina in integrating Serbs who are not loyal to Belgrade within the institutions,” Serwer noted.
