The commander of the U.S. Navy in Europe and Africa, Admiral Stuart B. Munsch, has stated that there is a possibility to increase KFOR troops in Kosovo if necessary. He emphasized that such a decision would be based on current circumstances.

“We have the option to do this if needed. Our decisions will depend on the situation,” he said in an interview with Voice of America.

Admiral Munsch also discussed the recent increase in KFOR forces in Kosovo. “We have raised the number of troops, as well as the weapons and equipment they brought with them, to prevent further incidents of violence. The year 2023 was the most violent in Kosovo in two decades, marked by the attack on KFOR forces in May and another in September, during which a significant amount of weapons was discovered. We increased the number of forces so that KFOR is capable of defending itself and is prepared to intervene in case of conflict between the two states. Currently, the main concern is the provocative political rhetoric during this period, which could incite either individual actors or non-state actors to engage in violent actions to express their discontent,” he stated.
