New York, USA – The Mayor of New York City, Eric Adams, hosted a special ceremony at Bowling Green Park in Lower Manhattan to commemorate the 112th anniversary of Albania’s independence.
The event, which was featured on the official website of the New York City Mayor’s Office, highlighted the city’s commitment to diversity and investment in its future. The ceremony emphasized the city’s dedication to fostering inclusivity and celebrating the cultures that contribute to New York’s vibrant community.
During the event, Albanian-Americans were honored for their contributions to both the local and global community. Those recognized included Bera Mjeku, Fadil Berisha, and Esad Gjonbalaj, who were celebrated for their impact and contributions to the Albanian-American community.
Several prominent figures attended the event, including Dr. Pashko Camaj, Secretary of VATRA, Ambassador of Albania to the U.S. Ervin Bushati, Permanent Representative of Albania to the UN Suela Janina, Kosovo Mission Chief in New York Blerim Reka, and other distinguished guests.
The opening prayer was delivered by Imam Kukaj from the Albanian-American Islamic Center of Staten Island. Mayor Eric Adams addressed the gathering, emphasizing the symbolism of raising the Albanian flag alongside the American flag, celebrating both nations’ shared values of freedom and democracy.
The celebration also featured a dance performance by the Ajkun Ballet Theatre, adding a cultural touch to the event.
