Defense Minister Ejup Maqedonci highlighted Kosovo’s potential to become a center for drone production, emphasizing the necessity of strengthening defense infrastructure in light of global security challenges.
In an interview with InfoPlus on RTK, Maqedonci underscored the importance of Kosovo establishing a munitions factory and drone design laboratories, aligning with current global security demands, particularly following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
“Today, it’s essential for every country to have a robust Ministry of Defense to ensure resilience against threats and global security challenges, especially in Europe,” Maqedonci said.
Beyond security, Maqedonci stressed the economic development potential of this initiative. He noted that discussions with strategic partners, including Turkey, have led to the government’s decision to establish a commission for research and development to advance these projects.
Maqedonci explained that drones have proven their efficiency on modern battlefields, particularly in Ukraine, and Kosovo is looking to leverage this technology.
“This initiative provides opportunities for our youth to innovate and positions Kosovo as a potential hub for drone production,” Maqedonci added.
