Matthew Miller, spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State, condemned the recent attack on the Ibër-Lepenc water canal in northern Kosovo, which occurred on the evening of November 29. The attack, believed to have been carried out with explosives, has been met with international outrage. Miller expressed the U.S.’s commitment to supporting efforts to hold the responsible parties accountable and emphasized the importance of restoring peace and security in the region.
In a statement on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Miller pledged the U.S. will actively support efforts to identify and punish those responsible for the attack. He also acknowledged the contributions of KFOR (Kosovo Force) and other international entities involved in restoring the disrupted water supply.
“We condemn the November 29 attack on Kosovo’s water system. We stand ready to assist efforts to find and hold those responsible accountable, and we appreciate the support of those helping to restore the water supply,” Miller wrote.
Following the attack in the village of Varagë, located in the Zubin-Potok municipality, Kosovo Police have continued to carry out raids and inspections in multiple locations, leading to the confiscation of firearms. These actions are part of ongoing efforts to secure the region and prevent further violence.
The U.S. has consistently supported Kosovo’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and has reiterated its commitment to assisting the country in addressing any threats to its security and stability. This attack, which disrupted critical infrastructure, is seen as a serious escalation in ongoing tensions in the northern Kosovo region.
As the situation develops, both local authorities and international partners are intensifying efforts to restore order and bring those responsible to justice.
