The first reading of the Draft Law on Mandatory Health Insurance has been approved by the Kosovo Assembly with 61 votes in favor, none against, and one abstention.
Kosovo’s Minister of Health, Arben Vitia, called this draft law the most important and fundamental piece of legislation in the healthcare sector.
“This draft law is the foundational step towards the establishment of health insurance in our country. This process is now irreversible, and as such, we are starting it today in this session. With this initiative, the Fund for Mandatory Health Insurance of Kosovo is being established,” Vitia said.
