Over a thousand students from Montenegro have expressed their support for students in Serbia who are blocking universities, stating that these blockades represent resistance to inhumane treatment of anyone who speaks out against systemic injustice.
“Students in Serbia have initiated blockades of all state universities in Belgrade, Novi Sad, and Niš, and with this letter, we want to show our full support to our Montenegrin colleagues,” the message reads.
Scenes of attacks, slandering, and even incidents of students being run over by cars, which we watch daily on social media, once again highlight that those in power are always disturbed when students decide to rise up.
However, endangering the lives of young people is a line no system should ever cross, and there must be an appropriate and swift punishment for it.
Every country must guarantee the safety and right to protest for everyone, without the risk of arrest, physical attacks, media slander, or manipulation for fighting for basic rights.
Therefore, students in Montenegro stand side by side with their colleagues in Serbia, sending support to all those currently engaged in blockades. We encourage them to persevere and demand that the Serbian government listen to its youth and immediately fulfill their demands.
