Russia carried out a massive attack on Ukraine in the early hours of December 25, targeting energy facilities and other civilian infrastructure, Ukrainian officials said.
At least three people were injured in the northeastern region of Kharkiv, which was hit by Russian ballistic missiles, according to Ukrainian authorities.
Regional Governor Oleh Syniehubov also reported “damage to non-residential civilian infrastructure” in Kharkiv.
The regional capital, the city of Kharkiv, “faced a massive missile attack,” said Mayor Ihor Terekhov via the Telegram platform.
“A series of explosions were heard in the city, and there are still ballistic missiles being launched towards the city,” Terekhov wrote on Telegram.
Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko stated that Russia “once again is massively attacking the energy sector,” though he did not specify which cities were under attack.
“The transmission system operator is taking the necessary measures to limit consumption in order to minimize the negative consequences on the energy system,” Halushchenko wrote on Telegram.
The Governor of Dnipropetrovsk, Serhiy Lysak, reported that the region has been facing a massive attack since the morning, as Russian forces are “attempting to destroy the region’s energy system.”
Air raid alarms were heard across Ukraine on the morning of December 25, while the country’s air force reported that Russian Kalibr cruise missiles had been launched from the Black Sea.
Since the start of the war in February 2022, Russia has repeatedly targeted Ukraine’s energy sector, severely damaging the electrical grid and causing frequent power outages.
A similar attack occurred on December 13, when over 90 missiles and 200 drones were used. /REL/
