Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg becomes Austria’s interim Chancellor for the second time. He had previously taken over the government for 57 days in 2021.
Schallenberg is assuming power once again in an exceptionally tense situation for the republic, during a polarized phase of government formation and for his party following the resignation of Karl Nehammer as party leader.
The Austrian politician will continue to lead the Ministry of Foreign Affairs while also serving as acting Chancellor.
