Miroslav Lajčák, the EU Special Representative for the Kosovo-Serbia Dialogue, has announced the first meeting of the Joint Commission on Missing Persons will be held this week in Brussels.

In a statement, Lajčák shared details of his recent engagements, including discussions with Jim O’Brien, Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, and Sasha Kasanof, Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Western Balkans.

“My first mission of the year took me to the U.S., where I engaged in in-depth discussions in Washington, D.C., focusing on geopolitical challenges and opportunities in the Western Balkans. We emphasized the importance of advancing the Normalization Dialogue,” Lajčák stated.

He also met with Richard Verma, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State, ahead of his visit to the region, and with UN Under-Secretary-General Rosemary DiCarlo to discuss the European trajectory of the Western Balkans.

In New York, Lajčák exchanged insights with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, highlighting the need for coordinated multilateral efforts to support the region’s EU integration.

The Brussels meeting on missing persons is a crucial step in addressing unresolved issues from the Kosovo-Serbia conflict, as the EU pushes for normalization and regional stability.
