Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has embarked on a diplomatic tour across European capitals to address recent remarks by former U.S. President Donald Trump regarding his interest in bringing Greenland, an autonomous Danish territory, under U.S. control.
Earlier today, Frederiksen met with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Berlin and concluded discussions with French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris, The Guardian reports via Gazeta Express.
Key Takeaways from the Meetings
Frederiksen highlighted a strong and unified message from Nordic and European allies, as well as global partners, emphasizing the respect for territorial sovereignty.
“There is a clear message from friends in Nordic countries, Europe, and beyond: there must be respect for territories and the sovereignty of states,” Frederiksen stated.
“This principle is essential for the international community we have built together since World War II,” she added.
When asked if she plans to use this support in future talks with Trump, Frederiksen remarked:
“I can leverage everything we are doing now; otherwise, I wouldn’t be doing it.”
She underlined the goal of positioning not just Denmark but also Europe in the strongest possible stance on the matter.
Upcoming Discussions
Frederiksen’s diplomatic efforts will continue in Brussels, where she is scheduled to meet NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte to further strengthen international dialogue and solidarity on the issue.
