On February 5, 2025, Besim Kelmendi, Acting Chief Prosecutor of Kosovo, announced during a meeting of the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council (KPC) that 100 prosecutors will be assigned to oversee the upcoming national elections on February 9, 2025.
In addition to the prosecutors, 30 administrative staff members will also be involved in the election process, as reported by “Betimi për Drejtësi.”
During the meeting, Laura Pula, the National Election Coordinator, requested that the engaged prosecutors be compensated for their work on election day. The amount to be paid will be determined by the Council.
Kelmendi emphasized that prosecutors will be stationed in each municipality, with responsibilities to ensure the smooth operation of the elections, including duties after voting hours.
However, Kelmendi expressed concerns over the budgetary issues, noting that the government had not approved most of the requests for funding, which had impacted the preparations.
He added that the compensation for prosecutors’ work would be in line with the Salary Law. The Council decided to address the Budget and Finance Committee to ensure these payments are made.
