British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, will discuss the importance of Ukraine’s sovereignty in talks with Donald Trump next week, he said in a phone call with Zelensky.

The UK Prime Minister reiterated the UK’s “ironclad support” for Kyiv when he spoke with Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday.

The two leaders had their second phone conversation in four days following U.S. President Trump’s decision to reopen relations with Russia and call for an end to the war in Ukraine, reports BBC, as transmitted by the reporter.

Around 2,000 people marched toward the Russian Embassy in West London ahead of the third anniversary of Vladimir Putin’s full-scale invasion.

According to the announcement, the British Prime Minister also said that “Ukraine must be at the center of any negotiations to bring an end to the war” and assured Zelensky of “the UK’s commitment to securing a fair and lasting peace to end Russia’s illegal war.”

Keir also told Zelensky that “preserving Ukraine’s sovereignty was crucial to preventing further aggression from Russia.”

The Prime Minister added that “he would take these important discussions forward in the coming days and weeks, including with Trump during his visit to Washington DC next week.”

Keir is expected to meet with Trump on Thursday following a week of intense summits and phone calls as European leaders sought to address the sudden thaw in relations between the U.S. president and Russia.

Ahead of visits to the White House by Keir and French President Emmanuel Macron, Trump stated that the two “had done nothing” to end the war in Ukraine.

He also mentioned that Zelensky had “no cards” in the peace negotiations and that he did not think “he is very important to be at the meetings.”

On Monday, European leaders held an urgent summit in Paris – one day before the U.S.-Russia talks in Saudi Arabia and amid fears that Ukraine and Europe might be excluded from the peace negotiations.
