Kosovo’s Central Election Commission (KQZ) has reported that more than 14,000 packages containing ballots from the diaspora will undergo the final stage of evaluation. This follows the completion of counting votes for candidates in the February 9 elections for the Kosovo Assembly.
As of Friday evening, the counting process for the votes from 38 Municipal Counting Centers concluded, with the evaluation of ballots from overseas still ongoing. KQZ spokesperson Valmir Elezi provided updates on the process, noting that from February 9 to 21, a total of 54,409 ballot packages were evaluated. Of these, 51,140 were approved, while 3,269 were rejected.
Elezi explained that the reasons for rejection included ballots sent by individuals who were no longer registered to vote outside of Kosovo, missing registration certificates, duplicate submissions, or multiple ballots from the same sender.
An additional 14,306 packages of ballots will undergo the evaluation process.
Regarding voter registration, Elezi reported that out of the 104,924 citizens registered to vote abroad, 84,600 were registered for postal voting, and 20,324 were registered to vote at diplomatic missions. Of those, 15,352 voted at diplomatic missions, while the KQZ received around 69,000 postal ballots.
Looking ahead, Elezi confirmed that the evaluation process for these 14,306 packages would soon begin. Furthermore, next week, the counting of conditional ballots and those cast by persons with special needs will commence. A total of 12,801 conditional ballots and 2,597 votes from individuals with special needs will be counted at the Counting and Results Center.
