Italian businessman Valter Lavitola, speaking from Rebibbia prison, has claimed that the decision to carry out a bomb attack targeting journalist and “Report” television presenter Sigfrido Ranucci was entirely his own.
“The attack was only my choice,” Lavitola said, according to his lawyer, Arturo Cola, who spoke to reporters after a three-hour meeting with his client.
Cola said Lavitola is experiencing a difficult psychological situation and has expressed regret over the trouble he caused people close to him.
According to the lawyer, Lavitola acknowledged that he personally decided to carry out the attack and acted on his own initiative. However, he denied that there had been any prior agreement or arrangement concerning the attack.
“Lavitola is certainly experiencing a difficult psychological situation because, of his own free will, he caused trouble for two people who are like a son to him and a brother,” Cola said, referring to Ranucci and another person.
The lawyer added that Lavitola regrets involving people for whom he feels responsible and reiterated that the decision to carry out the attack was made solely by Lavitola himself.
The case remains under investigation as authorities work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the attack and determine whether anyone else was involved.
