Person Arrested in Jarinje, Suspected of War Crimes Against Civilians

The Kosovo Police has announced that the Sector for War Crimes Investigation has detained a person at the Jarinje border crossing, who is suspected of committing war crimes against the civilian population during the Kosovo War.

According to investigations carried out by the War Crimes Investigation Unit, the suspect, identified as (D.R.), is suspected of committing the criminal offense “War Crimes Against the Civilian Population” during the Kosovo War (1998-1999) in the municipality of Gjakova between May 7-10, 1999. The suspect is accused of acting as part of an organized group, being mobilized as an official within a unit formed by the Serbian Ministry of Interior (MUP).

It is reported that the suspect was escorted to the police station, where he was interviewed in the presence of his defense lawyer.

“The prosecutor handling the case at the Special Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Kosovo has been informed of all investigative actions and has issued a decision to detain the suspect for 48 hours, in accordance with the applicable legal procedures,” the police announcement stated.
