The plane of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has arrived at Stansted Airport in the United Kingdom following his tense meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House.
British media report that Zelensky was present on board the same plane that took him to Washington, D.C.
It is learned that in London, Zelensky will attend a major summit organized by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Starmer is set to meet with European leaders at Downing Street on Sunday to discuss the possibility of a peace deal for Ukraine and how next steps could be planned. The summit aims to include the United States in any potential peace agreement.
However, hopes for full unity between European nations and the U.S. regarding Ukraine’s future have been damaged following the tensions between Trump and Ukraine’s leader.
Zelensky is expected to meet with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer later this afternoon.
After yesterday’s meeting, Zelensky expressed his gratitude for the support from the U.S. in a post on the social media platform X, but emphasized that Ukraine needs more commitment from America.
“I am grateful to the U.S. and President Trump for their support, which has been vital for our survival,” Zelensky wrote. “But it is important to be honest and direct with each other to understand our common goals.”
Zelensky also highlighted his willingness to sign a deal on Ukraine’s minerals with the U.S., calling this a significant step in securing security guarantees for his country. “But this is not enough,” he added. “A ceasefire without security guarantees is dangerous for Ukraine.”
In the conclusion of his statement, he stressed that the U.S. needs to stay stronger on Ukraine’s side, as without America’s support, it would be much harder for Ukraine to achieve its goals.
“It will be difficult without U.S. support, but we cannot lose our will, freedom, or our people,” Zelensky said.
