The “Student Decree” protest, the fifth massive protest sparked by the death of 15 people from the collapse of a shelter at the Novi Sad railway station on November 1st last year, began today in Niš and will last until 3 AM.

Students, in different groups, started their march in the morning from the faculties in Niš towards the city center, where they will be joined by the citizens of Niš and thousands of people from surrounding areas and all over Serbia. Traffic in the city center has been blocked, and preparations for the arrival of thousands of protesters have been underway since the morning, writes nova.rs.

In Niš, students arrived last night from many cities in Serbia, after days of marching, running in an ultra-marathon, or cycling. After covering up to 200 kilometers on foot, they were greeted with applause, fireworks, a red carpet, and an outburst of emotions. Likewise, along the way, they were warmly welcomed and supported by residents of the cities and towns they passed through, where locals provided food and refreshments, with many of them joining the march towards Niš.
