Slovakia’s populist Prime Minister, Robert Fico, has reiterated that his country will not provide financial or military aid to Ukraine in its ongoing conflict against Russia. Fico emphasized that the European Council had made no concrete commitments regarding mandatory financial and military assistance for Ukraine during its summit on Thursday.
Speaking at a press conference, Fico stated that, according to the final declaration, any aid to Ukraine would continue on a voluntary basis, and Slovakia would certainly not be among the countries offering such support.
He also welcomed the inclusion of Slovakia’s concerns in the text regarding negotiations for the renewal of Russian natural gas supplies to Central Europe through Ukraine. Fico said that Slovakia would now exert maximum pressure on Kyiv to resolve this issue.
