U.S. President Donald Trump said that he is “seriously considering” imposing banking sanctions, additional sanctions, and tariffs on Russia until a ceasefire and a peace agreement are reached with Ukraine.

“Based on the fact that Russia is ‘absolutely hitting’ Ukraine on the battlefield right now, I am strongly considering substantial banking sanctions, sanctions, and tariffs against Russia until a ceasefire and a final peace deal is reached. For Russia and Ukraine, sit down at the table now, before it’s too late. Thank you!!!” he wrote in a post on the social media platform “Truth Social.”

There are already numerous U.S. sanctions against Russia.

It is unclear whether Trump wants to tighten existing sanctions further or add new ones.

Trump’s response comes after Russia carried out a massive drone and missile attack on energy and gas infrastructure in several Ukrainian regions on Friday.

There were attacks even before Friday, which resulted in casualties. Four people died in a hotel in the hometown of Ukrainian President Zelensky after a Russian attack.

The hotel housed American and British nationals, Zelensky later confirmed, but none of them were killed.

Zelensky today called on allies to put pressure on Russia to stop the war against Ukraine, starting with an air and naval ceasefire.
