Today marks 44 years since the student protests in Kosovo on March 11, 1981, an event that shook the former Yugoslavia, reports Gazeta Sinjali.
These protests, which erupted in Pristina 44 years ago in March 1981, initially started as an expression of social dissatisfaction among students of the University of Pristina. On March 4, 1981, at the Student’s Mensa within the Student Center in Pristina, they spontaneously protested against what they saw as poor living and studying conditions at the time.
However, after a few days, on March 11 and 27, as well as on April 1 and 2, 1981, the initially social demands evolved into calls that reflected political, social, and national discontent.
