Dozens of ethnic Serbs gathered in North Mitrovica on March 12 to hold a 15-minute silent protest in memory of the victims of the Novi Sad railway station roof collapse in 2024. The demonstration took place near the Faculty of Philosophy, with protesters carrying signs reading, “The people demand only justice.”

The protest follows a series of student-led demonstrations across Serbia, including the blockade of the Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) building in Belgrade on March 11. Protesters accuse the government of failing to ensure accountability for the tragedy that claimed 15 lives.

The Serbian police clashed with demonstrators in Belgrade, and reports indicate that officers used force against students. President Aleksandar Vučić claimed that a police officer was seriously injured by protesters, though social media footage suggests he may have been accidentally harmed by fellow officers.

Despite government claims that student demands have been met, protestors continue to call for full transparency regarding the reconstruction of the Novi Sad railway station, legal action against those responsible for the collapse, and the release of arrested demonstrators. A larger protest is planned for March 15 in Belgrade.
