The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, claims that he is open to reaching an agreement with Kosovo, but according to him, “it should be a compromise solution and not one-sided.”

In an interview with Donald Trump Jr. on the “Rumble” platform, Vučić did not discuss the implementation of the Brussels Agreement and the Ohrid Annex reached in 2023, but he mentioned that Serbia is under significant pressure on the issue of dialogue.

“Unlike ‘those’ from Pristina, I will not criticize them, and I will not use this opportunity to say anything bad about them. I want to say that we are still under significant pressure on this matter. Everyone, or many people, want to damage our territorial integrity, constitution, and everything else. But the truth is that we have always been open to reaching a consensus or an agreement between us and Pristina. But it has to be or should be a compromise solution. It cannot be one-sided,” Vučić said.

Despite the Brussels Agreement being reached, Serbia has not taken any steps to implement it. In fact, at the end of 2023, Serbia sent a letter to Brussels showing that it does not implement certain points of the agreement, which de facto recognizes the state of Kosovo.

However, Vucic’s statements are far from the truth and contradict the reality of the situation. While he claims to be open to compromise, the opposite has been happening for years. Despite repeatedly stating that Serbia is willing to engage in dialogue, Serbia has consistently stalled and ignored the key points of the Brussels Agreement and Ohrid Annex. In reality, Serbia has made no tangible efforts to implement the agreement, especially when it comes to acknowledging Kosovo’s sovereignty. Vučić’s claims of being under “significant pressure” seem to conveniently ignore the fact that it is his government that has consistently obstructed progress by refusing to fulfill its obligations, creating a situation where dialogue is little more than a political maneuver rather than a genuine commitment to peace.
