After 26 years of waiting and continuous searching, an important announcement was made today for the families of three individuals who went missing during the last Kosovo war.
The Government Commission for Missing Persons and the Institute of Forensic Medicine, alongside the President of the Association of Families of War Victims and Missing Persons “Kujtesa” and representatives from the Municipality of Malishevë, officially informed the families about the identification of the remains of three victims from the Kralani Massacre.
The identified individuals, who had been on the Missing Persons List for over two decades, are Sabedin (Kadri) Kryeziu from the village of Mleqan – Malishevë; Mentor (Maliq) Kryeziu from the village of Bubavec – Malishevë; and Vehbi (Pajazit) Halilaj from the village of Llapqevë – Malishevë.
The identification process followed a lengthy investigative and scientific process by the experts at the Institute of Forensic Medicine, who have been dedicated to uncovering the fate of the missing individuals. This announcement follows the recent identification of eight other victims of the Kralani Massacre last week, whose remains were found and exhumed from a mass grave in Bishtazhin.
The Kralani Massacre is one of the most severe crimes committed during the Kosovo War, where dozens of innocent civilians were executed, and their bodies were hidden in mass graves to cover up the atrocities. Identifying each victim represents an important step toward fully uncovering the truth and bringing justice to the victims’ families and society at large.
The Government Commission for Missing Persons reassured the families of the missing and the public that it will continue its maximum efforts to uncover the fate and whereabouts of all individuals forcibly disappeared during the war. The quest for justice and the preservation of the memory of the victims will continue relentlessly until every missing person is found, and justice is served for them and their families.
