Canada’s Foreign Minister Melanie Joly expressed confidence in her country’s ability to prevail in the ongoing trade dispute with the U.S. caused by tariffs imposed by former President Donald Trump. Joly emphasized Canada’s importance as the U.S.’s largest trading partner and highlighted the economic ties between the two countries.
She acknowledged the impact of the 25% tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum imports and raised concerns about their effect on Canadian workers and businesses, especially ahead of Canada’s federal elections. Joly stressed that the resolution might come through American citizens urging their lawmakers to reconsider these tariffs. Despite the challenges, Joly believes that Canada will ultimately succeed in resolving the trade conflict.
