Steve Witkoff, envoy of U.S. President Donald Trump, met today with Kirill Dmitriev, the Kremlin’s chief negotiator for economic matters, Russian state news agencies reported.
Witkoff and Dmitriev, who is also the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, held talks in Saint Petersburg.
Earlier, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Witkoff had arrived in Russia.
Dmitriev had visited Washington in early April, marking the first official trip of a Russian delegation to the United States since the start of Russia’s offensive against Ukraine in February 2022.
The meeting signals a cautious resumption of dialogue between Washington and Moscow on economic issues amid ongoing tensions.
