An explosion, suspected to have been caused by a bomb, occurred on Friday outside the offices of Hellenic Train, Greece’s main railway company. So far, no injuries have been reported.

Police cordoned off the area along one of the main avenues in the Greek capital, where residents reported hearing a loud blast on Friday evening, according to AP.

Local media reported that a newspaper and a website received an anonymous phone call shortly before the explosion, warning that a bomb had been planted outside the railway company’s offices.

The explosion comes amid widespread public anger over a major train disaster in 2023, in which dozens of people were killed after a freight train and a passenger train traveling in opposite directions were mistakenly placed on the same track.
