The Energy Regulatory Office of Kosovo (ZRRE) has approved new electricity tariffs, introducing a 16.1% price increase for the period from May 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026. This decision follows a similar price hike enacted earlier, on April 11, 2025, making electricity increasingly expensive for all consumers in the country, reports Rks News.
ZRRE announced that the increase will affect all categories of consumers, making electricity more costly for every household and business across Kosovo.
According to the newly approved rates, citizens will have to pay significantly more for their energy consumption, across all levels of usage. The decision has triggered strong public backlash, with a major protest erupting immediately after the announcement. Additional protests have been announced in the coming days as citizens express their dissatisfaction and opposition to the hike.
ZRRE is responsible for reviewing and setting electricity tariffs on an annual basis, with each rate schedule covering the period from April 1 to March 31 of the following year.
This 2025–2026 price increase presents yet another financial burden on Kosovo’s citizens, who are already facing ongoing economic challenges.
With this latest decision, ZRRE has made it clear that electricity prices will continue to rise, following an ongoing trend that began earlier this year. The increase has sparked widespread concern, with many citizens calling it an added strain on their household budgets.
In this climate of uncertainty, the possibility of mass protests and growing public discontent have raised serious questions about how events will unfold — and how deeply this price hike will impact the daily lives of Kosovo’s people.
