Former PDK MP Xhavit Haliti has commented on the possibility of Vetëvendosje (VV) re-nominating Albulena Haxhiu as Speaker of the Assembly, emphasizing that while the Constitution allows it, the political climate remains difficult for the ruling party.

“The constitutional procedure allows VV to re-nominate Ms. Haxhiu,” Haliti told Gazeta Blic, adding that the decision remains internal to VV, depending on whether they have secured enough votes. “I don’t think they put her name forward to sacrifice it, but to elect her.”

According to Haliti, the right to nominate the Speaker belongs to the largest pre-election coalition or party, which in this case remains VV.

He also stressed that blocking the election of the Speaker is the most straightforward path if VV aims for early elections:

“If VV wants to lead the country into snap elections, blocking the election of the Speaker is the easiest way.”

In conclusion, Haliti warned that if the opposition refuses to vote for Haxhiu, they would be contributing to the collapse of this legislature:

“So, the opposition must either support her and keep this legislature running, or contribute to its fall.”
