The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has signaled a potential reduction in tariffs on China, raising hopes for a de-escalation of the trade war between the two largest economies in the world.

During an event where the tariff agreement with the United Kingdom was presented, Trump stated that the tariffs imposed on Chinese goods, which have currently reached a record level of 145%, cannot go any higher, hinting that there will be a reduction in the coming weeks.

“It can’t go any higher. It’s at 145, so we know it will go down,” said Trump, speaking clearly about the potential shift in U.S. trade policies.

Over the weekend, a high-level meeting is expected to take place in Switzerland between American and Chinese officials, which is seen as a key step toward ending the fierce tariff clash that has shaken global financial markets and created significant economic uncertainty.
