The Prime Minister of Kosovo and leader of the Vetëvendosje Movement, Albin Kurti, made it clear during a meeting of the party’s General Council that the support for Albulena Haxhiu as the next Speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo is unwavering.
In a direct address to the party’s structures, Kurti emphasized that although there have been voices suggesting alternative candidates—whether within Vetëvendosje or outside of it—his and the party’s decision is clear: Albulena Haxhiu best represents the principles and vision of the Movement.
“There have been voices saying not Albulena, but someone else. Some don’t want a Vetëvendosje representative as Speaker at all. But for us, commitment and trustworthiness are not matters of negotiation—they are values. Albulena embodies these values best,” said Kurti, as reported by Indeksonline.
He added that the Vetëvendosje Movement does not operate on the basis of political bargaining, but on clear convictions and decisions grounded in the concrete engagement of its members.
“We have many worthy figures in Vetëvendosje, but in this political moment, Albulena is the voice the Assembly and citizens need. We will not back down from this proposal,” Kurti concluded.
Kurti’s statement comes at a time of intense discussions over leadership positions in the new institutions expected to be formed after the upcoming elections or potential changes in the parliamentary structure.
