The Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, announced that the possibility of France being involved in the construction of the railway line connecting Durrës with Prishtina is currently being considered. The statement was made during a joint press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron, who is on an official visit to Albania.

Rama also emphasized that cooperation with France will expand into other key sectors, including water management and urban waste management.

“We want to strengthen our relationship also in the field of water administration, where France is a champion of innovation, experience, and has companies operating worldwide. We also discussed waste management, and we are working on having a comprehensive plan and strategy based on the steps for the negotiation process. There is a lot to do here. If we manage to complete the cooperation with French excellence, we will be greatly benefited,” he said.

He confirmed that one of the topics discussed with President Macron was the Durrës–Prishtina railway.

“We also talked about France’s involvement in the construction of the Durrës–Prishtina railway, and in the end, I’m glad that during the president’s last visit here, we were at the former house of the dictator Enver Hoxha, where work was beginning to transform it into a cultural center.”

The Albanian prime minister also appreciated the support France is providing to Albania on its path toward European integration.
