German police are searching for a man who stabbed and injured at least five people early Sunday in the western city of Bielefeld.

Authorities reported that three victims suffered serious injuries and are receiving treatment in different hospitals. The unknown suspect attacked partygoers outside a bar in the city center with a sharp object before fleeing the scene.

Police say they cannot rule out the possibility of more people being hurt in the attack.

According to the German news agency dpa, the victims were football fans from a local team who defended themselves against the attacker before he escaped, reports Telegrafi.

Arminia Bielefeld, the local football club, had won their match on Saturday, securing the 3rd division championship. Police believe the attacker may have been injured on the face.

The Bielefeld police statement said several knives were found at the scene. They have opened a hotline for witnesses and are asking people to upload any photos or videos of the attack.

They warn anyone who spots the suspect to keep their distance and immediately call emergency services, as the man could be armed and dangerous.
