A bus travelling from Germany to Kosovo was halted in Darmstadt after police inspections revealed it was carrying a significant amount of undeclared goods and even live pigeons, in addition to its passengers.
Police in Darmstadt discovered 28 passengers and six carrier pigeons on board the bus, which was en route to Prishtina, Kosovo. The pigeons were found in a crate within a trailer that the driver had illegally attached to the bus. The birds were subsequently moved to a safe location, as they were not permitted to be transported under such conditions.
The trailer also contained a variety of other items, including twelve car tires, a plastic swimming pool, and a washing machine. The drivers were unable to produce any license for this commercial transport of goods, police reported. Furthermore, they lacked registration for the trailer itself, according to albinfo.ch.
A subsequent analysis of the bus’s tachograph also uncovered violations of driving and rest time regulations, as well as several speeding infractions.
After a four-hour inspection, the accumulated fines for these violations reached a total of €6,200, which the drivers paid in cash.
