Donald Trump’s former National Security Advisor, KT McFarland, has revealed that the former U.S. president relied heavily on his personal network — rather than traditional military or intelligence structures — when making military decisions, Rks News reports.
In an interview with BBC Radio 4, McFarland said that Trump often consulted individuals he trusted, such as Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, before taking major steps like ordering a strike against Iran.
“His approach is different from most presidents, who rely on their staff and cabinet,” she said. “But in the end, he makes the call alone — and he doesn’t second-guess himself. He just lets it happen.”
McFarland also recalled the 2017 U.S. airstrike on Syrian airfields, noting that Trump proceeded to have dinner with Chinese President Xi Jinping, learning of the operation’s success during dessert — a slice of chocolate cake.
