Despite the ongoing political crisis surrounding the constitution of the Assembly, a saga that began on April 15, no parliamentary group has shown signs of changing their rigid stances. Positions remain entrenched, and polarizing language is intensifying.
Some factions speak of a potential agreement, while others await an interpretation from the Constitutional Court regarding the proposed change in voting method, from open to secret.
Constitutional Court’s Interpretation Awaited
Albulena Haxhiu, a Vetëvendosje Movement MP who faces opposition from other Albanian parties to lead the new legislature, believes the Constitutional Court is delaying its decision on the matter. Conversely, former judge Kadri Kryeziu anticipates a response within the coming week. “We can hope that the Court will come up with an opinion next week, considering whether there was material to be dealt with,” he said.
Kryeziu further criticized the current political climate, stating, “Civilized countries don’t act like this. The MPs don’t have a high political level, and they don’t respect the Constitution of Kosovo.”
Calls for Political Agreement Amidst Stalemate
Political analyst Fatime Hajdari argues that, given no political group currently holds the numbers to form a government, MPs are making a mistake by not participating in the Assembly’s constitution.
“I think a political agreement is needed, even if it’s to go to new elections. Regardless of positions, a vote for the Kurti 3 government isn’t being sought, but for the Assembly of Kosovo, and they should be there. It’s already clear that no political grouping has the votes,” she stated.
The 35th attempt to constitute the 9th legislature is scheduled for tomorrow, June 21, at 10:30 AM.
