UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and US President Donald Trump held a phone conversation this evening amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
According to a statement from Starmer’s office, the two leaders discussed the threat posed by Iran’s nuclear program and the recent US airstrikes targeting Iranian nuclear facilities.
“They reiterated the grave risk Iran’s nuclear program poses to international security,” the statement read.
Both leaders agreed that Iran must never be allowed to develop nuclear weapons, and emphasized the importance of returning to the negotiating table as soon as possible to pursue a sustainable solution to the crisis.
The leaders also pledged to remain in close contact in the coming days as the situation unfolds, reports the BBC.
