U.S. President Donald Trump has controversially compared the recent American strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities to the atomic bombings of Japan during World War II, stating they were “essentially the same thing.”

Speaking at the NATO Summit in The Hague on Wednesday, Trump remarked, “I don’t want to use the example of Hiroshima, I don’t want to use the example of Nagasaki, but it was essentially the same thing — that ended a war,” as reported by The Guardian.

According to Trump, the attack on Iran’s nuclear sites effectively ended the conflict between Israel and Iran. “This [the attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities] ended the war [between Israel and Iran]. If we hadn’t hit them, they would still be fighting now,” he added.
